The Consumer Data Right (CDR) is an economy-wide data portability reform that will lay the foundation for an ‘open data’ future for Australia.

The CDR is a Federal Government priority intended to position Australia as the world-leader in consumer data rights for citizens, as well as drive greater innovation and competition across the economy.

The ACCC appointed Synergy Group to prepare an ICT Second Pass Business Case for the CDR in Banking, Energy and Telecommunications sectors in Australia.

True collaboration

The formation of a comprehensive and compelling ICT business case, while navigating the complex landscape of external budget funding was a challenge.

“It was our understanding of the ACCC developed over a decade of engagements, combined with our proven methodology that meant we were able to deliver a high-quality business case to meet a tight deadline,” says Mark Pattrick, Partner at Synergy Group.

Collaboration with…

  • Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)
  • Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)
  • CSIRO’s Data 61
  • Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
  • Treasury
  • Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
  • Victorian Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP)

The Synergy Group team worked closely with leaders across seven agencies, and with other major consulting firms, systems integrators, and contractors charged with delivering specific elements of the CDR Program.

Government know-how

To deliver a comprehensive and compelling business case, Synergy Group’s leadership and deep government know-how was instrumental.

“Synergy Group helped broaden the focus and improve understanding of the complexities involved in delivering a multi-entity, high-priority Federal Government program,” says Mark.
